When we hosted the game against Greece last year, probably about 30% of people there were supporting Greece. It was a great atmosphere, they really added to the occasion.

Newcastle is the home of gb basketball now, they do such a great job of filling the arena each time. A great step in building the brand

A great step in building the brand Interesting though If GB played a game at 02 arena using the 02 database and marketing power (with enough notice) against a team with lots of fans in UK Could they get a really big crowd there?

With the correct marketing, which costs money, you can fill a stadium anywhere. However British Basketball does not have the money to fund the amount of marketing needed. If you go to any other top level professional sport in the UK there will be a range of premium options to cater for spectators who want more than a basic admission, and for companies who wish to use the event as part of their marketing plan.
While it is positive that the games at Newcastle sell out, for the long term success of the sport there needs to be sustainable development plan that leads to games been played at larger arenas which allow for more spectators and a range of premium options.

Good point about the O2. They have played a few there in the past but not sold greatly. But Newcastle have given the team some great support recently. I wish i could come but the train fair is just guna be too expensive i think.
Ive really come to like Newcastle recently. Its very much our 'Basket City' as they would call it in europe.

I do agree a big arena like the O2 or Copper Box would be good but unless we were playing Team USA where people might come purely to see the NBA stars Newcastle is probably best for now. The past 2 games they have filled the arena and your atleast guaranteed the Eagles fans to come. And not to be biased but Newcastle is a great city in terms of cost it is not as expensive as London to get to or book a hotel for visiting away fans and people from elsewhere in the UK who come to the game. And ideally you want to make the atmosphere intimidating but not threatening for the other team. Watching some European fans they go crazy during games bouncing up and down or lighting flares.(not that I want flares) To some countries they probably look at GB and go "pfft GB their not really a Basketball country" only to get a real shock when them come to Newcastle and hear thousands of screaming fans then say. "This is British Basketball!"

I don't think I suggested a London venue, indeed there are cities throughout the country that are easier for spectators to get to and would be easier to sell.
In time it would be great if GB games were too popular for the Eagles venue and the larger Newcastle arena was filled, or venues like the NIA(or whatever it's called today), the Emirates in Glasgow or the Motorpoint arena in Cardiff were viable options for GB games.
It is important that national teams are seen all around the country, not just in London.

I am happy for Newcastle to be hosting this game. They are Britain's Basket City. But I do think British Basketball is under-selling itself. Turkey and Greece are massive basketball nations and it's fantastic they they are playing Team GB. If the British public don't realise this something is going wrong. As this is a British basketball team I do think games should be more towards the North as they must be accessible to Scots. But a World Cup qualifier should be a bigger deal. I would like the next round of games played at venues like the Manchester Arena, the Liverpool Arena and the Nottingham Motorpoint Arena.

Newcastle fill the crows with British basketball fans, not people who think uts a fun day out. That's the difference for me.
I do hope they continue to grow and fill the nia like milehigh said too

Agree that it should be spread around all of GB and building the brand is vital. Eagles and Riders have the advantage of control of the venue and a large fanbase to market to. Helps having an airport close by.

Those Belarus games are cancelled. GB are through to the next round in the most unsatisfying way, but these upcoming games are still important as they affect seeding.
