What happened with Lyon’s and lasker? Coach Lyon’s said something like they were spurred on by people continuously saying you don’t win many games when you score as little as they do, and he said “people, like yourself’ to Drew Lasker. Nothing major, just a little dig I thought.

That must be the death knell for Eagles playoff hopes, but to be fair, they have progressed (from Q3 to Q4 meltdowns) and Peel’s best performance I’ve seen, all with Fletch and Sayers missing!

Defoe had to play 36 minutes at his age
Seriously what chance has he got playing 2 more games in a 6 man rotation next 3 days?

Just watch the Lions@Sharks match on Sky and that Lions pass to the Sharks player at the end was hysterical. Although some dreadful free throws show by one of the Sharks players. I've seen better free throws in the Eagkes kit dash.
Very low scoring game but I was impressed with Glasgow Jr and think he's doing well at Sheffield for them. Although I hope Robison is okay as well as the other Sharks player who went off injured. Sorry if this is a bit vague I only half paid attention to the game in the 2nd half.

Yet all he got was garbage time. That meant four players with over 36 minutes, not good. Had to laugh at Jeff though, he kept calling Mike Miller Mark. Mark Miller was a forward for us in the 90s. Congratulations to Flyers, worthy winners.

Congratulations to Flyers, worthy winners. I agree Themba when he's had the minutes has actually played really well for us and gets stuck in. Sometimes I'm surprised he's not given more opportunities to play for us. However Kande I felt hasn't been given much play time this year which I have thought was a bit of ashame. To me the real MVP of the game yesterday has to be the Bristol fans who travelled up as well. I know their was a good chance of a win and with it being Easter I imagine some of them came to Newcastle to make a Weeke Weekend of it. But it's always great to see rival fans come up to the Nest as it adds to the atmosphere.

Themba is terrible in garbage time and terrible in the 30 minutes he averages in d1. He is there so they can pretend their huge cvl is developing players when in reality it's not more than a cash cow that makes a fortune from parents

Very few kids make it to the top of any sport, that doesn't mean they shouldn't try. Those kids are learning teamwork and discipline, no bad thing in my view. Tosan Evbuomwan would not be tearing it up at Princeton and being scouted by NBA without the CVL. www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/newcastle-tosan-evbuomwan-princeton-tigers-23384320 Oh that cash cow you mention is actually run by Eagles charity, The Eagles Foundation.

I can't see any skills that are elite (at BBL level) other than being a half decent athlete. Opposing teams look to attack him every time he's on the floor, both offensively and defensively. However, no way is our CVL up here a cash cow. It's the way forward for basketball in this country and gives thousands of kids in this area a chance to play basketball. It's getting bigger all the time and things are being put in place for talent to finally have a pathway to follow from under 10s and up. I feel very lucky to live in a city where we have this sort of infrastructure and people that genuinely care about the future of our sport running it.

Maybe I wrote cash cow and you've taken it as an offense statement, that was not my intent.
They have a truly wonderful cvl, one I'd love to see in every bbl city/town or village if you're Leicester. But what it does create is 1000 players every week paying their fees, I don't know what the cost is and I dontbwant to check but I imagine around the £3 mark. That's 3 grand a week, probably for 39 weeks as most cvls run school term times, that's 117k a year. From every 1000 players they've so far created Eddie Matthew who lasted 2 seasons outside of Newcastle. They're not created players they're created fans, again nothing wrong with that, it's what all clubs should be doing but without a player on the roster who has come through the system they cant say they have a pathway to the pros if nobody is playing pro.
It wasn't a slight on Newcastle or their cvl, im very impressed by it but it generates a small fortune hence why I said cash cow

Completely agree regarding the lack of young players that have been brought through in the area. To be fair, until they built the arena they were always pretty restricted with what they could do with those players. Since the arena was built, everything is now under one roof and the academy teams now have proper facilities where they can train properly and for the correct amount of time. I've been going to a few academy games and they seem to have fostered a great atmosphere where kids from CVL can go and watch for free and see the development pathway for themselves. I'd be pretty confident that in 10 years we'll see homegrown talent playing in the BBL side. Sam at Hoopsfix did a great podcast with Dave Forrester where he talked about this subject at length. Well worth a listen.
