Great game! End to end stuff and great offense from both teams. Obviously really good as a fan to see Bristol get the W after two hard defeats.

I hate to be that guy, genuinely, but isn't basketball always end to end stuff?

I hate to be that guy, genuinely, but isn't basketball always end to end stuff? It is but BBL, and now SLB seems to be even more end to end than other leagues. We have smaller, relatively quicker, fitter players. It would be interesting if a stat recorded was how many times the ball crosses the half way line. I predict it would be high compared to other leagues.

I guess it would reduce the time it takes the PG to bring the ball up the court, therefore reducing the amount of time when not much is happening. You would probably have higher scoring games, but who knows. These things tend to have unforeseen consequences.

A fifth at each end, wouldn't that equate to 40% of the court we have now? It would be tiny! Would the 3 point line even fit? May as well go down to 1 basket and play 3 on 3 then. What they could do is reduce the shot clock to say, 20 seconds but I fear that would just mean more rushed, low percentage shots going off. The NBA have made a few tweaks over the years to speed play up such as reducing the time to get over the halfway line from 10 seconds down to 8, and resetting the shot clock to only 14 seconds instead of 24 when in the front court, should it need a reset.

surely if you reduce each half by a fifth then the total length of the court lost is also a fifth?

surely if you reduce each half by a fifth then the total length of the court lost is also a fifth? Yes it would be a fifth AKA 20%, but I think that would be a bit too much. It would be a bit crowded and there would be a risk of accidental backcourting. 10% of 15% reduction would be better.

Christ we moan about the governing body being run by idiots and here we are making a court 20% shorter, next someone will suggest having extra players on court if they're under 6 foot

And rather than bringing the ball from the back court how about restarting from the centre.

I think the court size is fine and cannot see any argument for shrinking it. This is a surreal proposal.

I was not expecting this conversation to take this particular direction!

Did you guys really just discuss that proposal seriously?
Lol

Well we had a discussion about adding a 4 point line not so long ago, so why not! Next week - lowering the hoop to 8 feet to increase scoring!

1/5 + 1/5 is 2/10 so 20%
Court is fine. Something is always going on, even when the PG is standing on the half court trying to figure out which play the coach wants him to play
Tho I bet there iare a few players who wish the court was a little wider in the corners the new of out of bound calls you see of passes out there for the three

The Elam Ending would be good for a trial where at the start of the 4th Q a target score of 10 points more than winning teams point total has to be reached by any of the teams to win the game. The 4th Q would not be a timed quarter.

I mean if people think there's too much standing around in the middle of the court going on and not much action...have you ever tried football? Most people like football. I don't and the primary reason is precisely that - way too much kicking the ball around in the middle of the pitch, whereas I always found basketball much faster paced with the score constantly changing and more excitement. In football it can be several minutes between attacks sometimes, and then the ball just floats out of play going nowhere near the goal. A 0-0 draw means the highlights package is a bunch of missed shots! I just can't get my head around it. Yet, it's ever so popular with the masses.
