I'm suprised that Caledonia go for the BCL over the ENBL which guarantees you more games then a qualifier. But I wish them luck in representing the SBL in Europe.

I actually respect Caledonia for trying to play at the highest possible level of Euro competition they can, so good on them and long may it continue.

Will wait and see how they get on, I believe it is the same as last year if they win all their games this week they qualify for the champions league which I think is very doubtful. If they lose the game today they drop down to the FIBA Europe Cup I think which gives them games over the next few months. Spacejammer- Gladiators have said in the past they go for FIBA competitions as that is known worldwide and helps recruiting Imports. The ENBL is a good competition but not really known outside the clubs that play in it.

I think it's fairly obvious Caledonia have chosen the FIBA Basketball Champions League as a way of entry into the FIBA Europe Cup. I don't think anyone (Caledonia included) is expecting them to qualify and complete in the FIBA Basketball Champions League regular season, but instead get an automatic qualification for the FIBA Europe Cup. I say that with absolutely no disrespect intended, it's exactly what London Lions did a few years back. I wish Caledonia the best of luck, it's always good to see a British team competing in one of the FIBA european competitions.

Gladiators well beaten 90-59, now they play FIBA Europe Cup. Hopefully the teams they play are not of the same standard as Oradea was.

As much as its cool to go into whatever the Enbl is, it doesn't really wow me if I'm honest.

As much as its cool to go into whatever the Enbl is, it doesn't really wow me if I'm honest. From what I understand I think the ENBL is a growing league and still very young in developing as it was only started 3 years ago in 2021. Considering they have added 2 teams I think it is safe to say it is expanding which is a positive for it. The only thing I question with the ENBL is the qualification aspect since you can enter without needing to finish at a certain level in their respective domestic league. I can see the argument for why people might not favour it over the BCL or Europe Cup. Although for a team competing I suppose it does make it interesting not knowing whether your playing a strong or weaker team from a countries domestic league? To me whether your playing in ENBL, BCL or Europe Cup. I suppose as long as the teams can afford it I'm just happy to see my team playing on a European Stage at any level.

No one's choosing the ENBL over a guaranteed spot in Europe Cup. Last season's champions only participated in the competition because they were knocked out of Europe Cup in the first round. And Eagles and Flyers are only there because they currently have no alternatives.
It's not really a very good competition if we're completely honest. I'd wager no one here had heard of it before Flyers first announced they were taking part. Some of the teams in it are awful. Some of the venues are John Sandford-esque. Even the name makes no bloody sense. What the hell is a Bulgarian side doing in the 'European North Basketball League'? The whole thing just feels a bit Mickey Mouse to me. It's better than nothing but I think that's about the best thing you can say about it.

And it's not be being snobbish by the way. If you're in it to dip your toe into the European adventure scene to see how financially viable it may be to then jump up to the Europe Cup etc, great. It doesn't strike me as something that's going to be a pull long term though.

reality is the format of ENBL is far more conducive for British teams at the current level than Europe Cup. 7 games spread throughout the season with a real prospect of progression as opposed to 6 games done by mid November. It probably hurts them in terms of SLB prospects though given the road trips involved mid season.
in judging the standard I don't think you can take the worst teams (or the best ones). It's right that at least one Estonian team last year shouldnt have been close to it. But the Lithuanian, Belgian and Romanian clubs in it will all have had substantially higher budgets than UK ones. In all honestly it interests me far more that Glads inevitable dropping out after first round of Europe cup.
Also a bit perplexed about the comment of Glads using to attract better imports. This year they have returned Onwas and Dubose, picked up a rookie pg from a mid level conference, a tweener big with unremarkable numbers from Portugal and a solid LEB Gold 4 in Stuckman. Thats BBL recruitment, not next level. And Mcgill and Johnson from eagles last year have used ENBL to move onto no doubt far more lucrative deals in Poland and Turkey. Which is a good sell for players looking to move up.

It's biggest value for me as an Eagles fan, is getting more home games to attend while also breaking the monotony of watching the same 9 (now 8!) teams all season long. It might have helped our recruitment last season, I'm not so sure this season yet. Our level of play has been nowhere near Europe Cup level, so not really too upset at what the club is doing with Europe at the moment. I'd like to see us one day play at that level though. Would be nice to see more British teams enter it at some point, maybe Leicester can sell a few parking spaces and get some funding together for it 😉.
