The salary cap has been reinstated too........
Its now £500k.
I'm not sure if that includes the coaches salary and the two highest paid Brits. The old salary cap excluded these. (I thought the old salary cap was £250k).
Yes I remember the old salary cap being £250k for players' salaries excluding 2 highest paid, which I don't think is enough for a professional basketball team. £500k is enough for a professional full time squad, but difficult for London. For those of us with limited knowledge of roughly what teams spend, how many of the clubs is the cap likely to impact? Would anyone other than London and maybe Caledonia have spent more than £500k on salaries last season?

Salary caps won't make it competitive if Leicester are throwing out a 500k team and Manchester put put out a 50k team again.
Personally think their should be a minimum as well as a maximum

As a die hard Raiders fan I disagree too. We're d3 and need to climb back to d1. With a city the size of ours, it's probably about where we should fit. A strong nbl1 with fans of about 1000 per game should be the aim, that's about where plymouth should be See that's how it should be. You'll bring back old fans and make new ones with the success along the way too. I just hope everyone in Plymouth can get behind them because I remember them coming up to the BBL from NBL the first time and it was impressive. No reason it can't be done again.

I think bringing back the salary cap is a massive boost, The past few seasons have been a complete farce,
It definitely makes it a much more fair and competitive environment for all involved. And I for one don’t think that Riders will have a massive budget…..we never really have.

Firstly I like the design of the new league and think it looks better then what we had design wise last season but I am gutted their bringing back the Salary cap and that Plymouth are gone. Whilst I look forward to seeing a more competitive league and getting this season underway. I do think the salary cap is going to make things difficult for the Eagles, Flyers and Gladiators European ventures. But I look forward to see who becomes the first champions of the new era I suppose. I hope they release the league fixtures before bank holiday weekend and what competitions they will have in place.

Someone pointed out that after 144 league games you eliminate 1 team for the playoffs which is absurb and 4 competitions for 9 teams is wild but I'm just happy its back

Not exactly. There's nothing stopping them having 6 teams qualifying for the play offs, creating some jeopardy and, dare I say, interest in the regular season. Playing 144 games to eliminate one team (Either Surrey or Manchester) is absolutely nuts.

The Nottingham Forest owner is currently in talks with ECB to buy the Trent Rockets franchise for men and ladies cricket to change the name to Nottingham Forest and add to his multisports set up
He's already got men's and women's football and ladies pro netball
I reckon next season we are almost certain to get Nottingham Forest basketball team in BBL
He owns Olympiakos so knows basketball inside and out. Maybe the BBL team becomes a feeder club for them?
With the two mens football teams we have lots of loans between the clubs
If he gets involved in basketball over here he will target Europe for sure
So that's a positive to look forward to

Plus it's not just to eliminate, it's to decide a league champion and set the seeds. Top 6 means fewer playoff games too, how is that good?

Marinakis is going for every possible team. Except for maybe Nottingham Panthers.

Marinakis is going for every possible team. Except for maybe Nottingham Panthers. The only way he'd get Panthers off Neil Black is if they were to sign someone facing charges of SA. Neil Black sold the Glasgow Clan after they signed a Finnish guy who was facing SA charges in the States, the GM and Coach were suspended, Coach was eventually sacked but it was for on ice results. The GM was moved to Arena Manager but he slithered his way back to a Club role. Sponsors suspended their deals and fans were threatening boycotts. The player had his contract terminated without playing. It was only discovered because Clan fans did a better background check on him than the Club did. But yeah, Neil Black won't give up the Panthers probably until he gets London Emperors up and running, which likely is dead in the water as they were going to join the KHL but with the current situation of Vlad The Dicktator and his failure of an invasion of Ukraine going on it'll never happen.

Well it was only 2 teams last season. Plus it's not just to eliminate, it's to decide a league champion and set the seeds. Top 6 means fewer playoff games too, how is that good? Would you be in favour of expanding the NBA playoffs to 26 teams? Would mean more games. More games = better apparently? Eight teams making the playoffs this season is a joke. I've found the stubborn refusal to budge from this number in recent years a bit irritating. Was fine when the league had twelve teams but not ten and definitely not nine. I hope the team that finishes eighth this season doesn't pat themselves on the back too much for 'making the playoffs.' Also a bit disappointed to see the two legged aggregate format return after years of fans saying they wanted best of three. But I appreciate now is not the time for nit-picking.

Don't think the big fat Greek actually has anything to do with Olympiakos basketball does he? Team is owned by the Angelopoulos brothers.
