As it all looks set to crumble into dust, let's take a trip down memory lane and see who goes back the furthest! What do you recall of your first BBL game?
I was 14, had got into basketball at school, watching NBA and playing. My friends who already played also went to Worthing Bears games and I thought that would be good. So first home game of the 1996-97 season, I go along and its Bears v Towers. A rather one sided affair and a losing effort from the home team but I was hooked after that!
Fun fact: it was James Hamilton's rookie season in the BBL, for Worthing. Bet that makes a few folk feel old now!

I suspect it was not officially the BBL in 1988 but it was the top flight. Bracknell Tigers lead by Brian "Special" Kellybrew, Dale Roberts, Trevor Gordon and I believe a young PG called Paul James.

My first BBL game was when I was in primary school and I used to win tickets for 100% attendance for the Newcastle Eagles, Newcastle Vipers and occasionally Newcastle United although I don't re call much about who were playing back then.
Whereas my first game as a season ticket holder was 2011/12 where we played the Glasgow Rocks and we had the sweep team consisting of Charles Smith, Andy Thompson, Joe Chapman, Darius Defoe (in his prime) etc...
It was an exciting season for a first time fan.

Watched Riders/Walkers/Planters (whatever incarnation they were back then) play against Solent Stars at Granby Halls and became a season ticket holder in the following week. No idea what year that was but my favourite player was Lonnie Legette.

I recall my first game was during the 83/84 season for Leicester Planters / Walkers /. Riders Can’t remember who was the Vs team. But It soon became an every game attendance for me.
It was the season Planters lost to Solent Stars in the final of the Asda National Cup at the Albert Hall
Solent Stars 86–67 Planters Leicester Pts: John Johnson 20, TJ Robinson 18, Mark Saiers (MVP) 17 Pts: Charles Payton 22, Ken Pemberton 18, Lonnie Legette 12, Steve O'Shea
Kenny KP Pemberton was a particularly favourite of mine. I still have the program from that game.

First was Glasgow Rocks vs Durham Wildcats towards the end of the 11/12 season, I decided to go as was fed up with getting messed about with my season ticket at Braehead, now Glasgow Clan.
I don't remember much, was still getting over the shock of almost getting squashed in the game played prior to the Rocks one, Glasgow Uni & Edinburgh Kings, guy was attempting to catch the ball and it was coming towards me.
The only other thing was the strong smell coming from Sterling Davis.

One of first 'british' games i remember going to was Paisley v Crystal Palace at Barrhead s/c - be around 1981 82 with Alton Byrd in the Palace side, was some form of cross border cup not a league though. Will have been to a few Scottish League games before that.
First British league game I'd need to find the program to see if it was 87 or 88 but will most likely to have been Manchester v Livingston MIM at Stretford first one went to. If not that one, then would be one v Oldham or Sunderland around the same time.

It's great to see so much history here and how far back some people are going, and still following the sport all these decades later!

If my memory serves me correctly, my first game was against Doncaster Panthers at the Granby Halls in the season that Jon & Eddie James were coaching…… I think it was the 94/95 season (but prior to Christmas so it was 94). Me and my two sons are still season ticket holders.

Mine was towards the end of 92/93 season for Sunderland Saints, not sure who it was against though. I got free tickets at school and was instantly hooked. I don't think I missed a single game for around 7 years until I moved away. Back then we had Ken Nottage, Colin Kirkham, the Hopper brothers, Adam Barnes, Mark Miller, Jon-Paul Heron, Scott Howden and not forgetting Russ Saunders

I wish there was an Elite Prospects style site but for Basketball where it was accurate and up to date where you could look at past rosters for your team.
I remember quite a few names from the Rocks, some will have retired while others could be playing.
EJ Harrison was a quality player, Achara was outstanding, Mychal Green in the short time I saw him was cool. There was another player, DeAundre Cranston

Can't remember that far back. Certainly remember starting to watch just after the Jetwash/ 4 year Cup run era so guess 2005?. Loved the " atmosphere at the old Northgate and earlier visits to away games. I've seen Riders in at least 3/4 venues (BUT not that old to get to Granby Halls). Lots of memorable names/games Victor Moses hitting 50 in a game and the amazing sight of 7'6" Paul Sturgess being fed the ball from an end line and dunking still flatfooted on the ground.

Mine was late 2004, Chester Jets vs Thames Valley Tigers at the Northgate. Jets won pretty comfortably but I remember the roster pretty well - Trey Moore, Del Herriman, Shawn Myers, DJ Harrison and Calvin Davis with Bill Singleton, Ant Martin and John Simpson coming off the bench. They won the league and then lost out to a young Drew Sullivan absolutely murdering them in the playoff final for Newcastle in one of the standout BBL performances I’d seen at both ends, he was daft that day. I think Newcastle won their first ever piece of silverware at Brighton that season, wonder whatever happened to them?
