Wow whilst I believed we were capable of beating Gladiators tonight I certainly did not expect it to come so comfortably in the end. And for the first time in a while 2 excellent back to back performances from the Eagles. Tonight we certainly showed them who's house this was.
Some excellent play from the Eagles and a positive performance all round. The game started off at a very slow and controlled pace which I thought surprising since we usually start running like an erratic machine gun. But it seemed to work a charm and with smart play on top plus making our free throws we took care of business.
As for the Gladiators I know they were fighting to save their season but with how frantic they were and getting into foul trouble. It was asif they hit the panic button as soon as the ball was tipped. Clearly without Quade Green they looked lost and weren't 100% sure who the man to step up was going to be.
On top that having a loud and proud Eagles crowd rooting against them we did a fantastic job making them wish they were somewhere else. I thought given how tense things were I'm suprised tempers did not boil over but apart from a minor confrontation between Mcgill and Jimez at the end nothing kicked off.
As for the officials though if I'm going to be honest I thought they had a poor game. One minute they were calling every foul under the sun. Next it seemed like every bump magically had been missed. They were consistent to both teams so I will give them that but I was worried we weren't going to have any players left on court at the end of the night.
Overall though a fantastic night for the Eagles and one which I throughly enjoyed. It was frustrating that once we won Howard burst our bubble and straight away announced we were playing the Lions as it would have been nice to let us enjoy this moment. But given how hopeless we all felt a few weeks ago I will take us making the Semi Finals as an achievement.
Whilst I hope the Eagles enjoy their well deserved rest now they don't have to travel to Scotland on Sunday. I hope they don't relax to much and begin preparations early for the Lions rolling into town next week.

You reckon big budgets cuts are coming next season? No I don’t my point is huffy Gareth isn’t cutting it. Second biggest budget by a distance falls out with best player and has us under performing. I won't even pretend to know what's going on with Caledonia but I can comment on what I've seen. Regular season we've had your number, but you finished much higher. So no excuses, two knockout games and we blew you out. Given your final league position can you really blame the Coach? The fact is wor lads wanted it more and the scores reflect that. I'm a fan, I understand your pain but there is more than one person to blame for your disappointment.

Brave fight from the Scorchers tonight. Very proud. Would love to see some of these boys back next season.

Eagles are very good to watch when they're playing this well. Thoroughly entertaining. They defended well most of the game, and scoring 33 points from 3 pointers was a big help.

I’m hoping we have the second coming of Garbelotto next season. That would be great entertainment.

What Coach Thomas has done at Phoenix is absolutely superb. A team that the ‘experts’ said wouldn’t make the play offs have a trophy in the cupboard and are into the semi’s.
They’ve been an absolute joy to watch this season and I’d love to see them make it to the final and upset the Lions again.

While absolutely NOT wanting to rain on your parade, you have a very similar regular season record to Caledonia. Eagles blew them out in both games. If we beat Lions over two or three legs would you still be so confident? Not being sassy but Basketball can be a strange ol' game. Best of luck by the way 🙏.

If we beat Lions then I certainly think we would have a good chance of going all the way to winning the playoffs. Although let's be honest despite last night's performance defeating Lions in 2 games is going to be a big ask for any team. After last night I feel more confident we can push Lions to a game 3. But unless the Lions have a huge disaster likd lose alot players due to injury or decide they cannot be bothered it's hard for me to see us going to the O2. Last night it was announced our game will be 10th May 2024 but no mention of whether its game 1 or 2 we are hosting. In theory I thought it would be game 2 which means game 1 is either this weekend or mid week.

Watched Surrey v London, Fair play to Surrey they just wouldn't go away, but looked like London had another gear if required.

This is the best I've seen Eagles play, these last two games, but I don't think Gladiators were very good and I don't think there's much chance of Lions letting them play like that. Lions have too much size and quality.
At this point I feel Eagles have redeemed themselves. The regular season was a bit disappointing but seeing them play up to their potential in the playoffs, all is forgiven. Their ENBL season was also a success and they got as far as they realistically could in that competition.

Well we made the semifinal I must say I was suprised Bristol didn’t make more of a game of it I was expecting this to go to game three but our guys can never be underestimated Ben Thomas coach of the year without doubt

But I think Marc Steutel has now figured out how to get the best out of this squad so there is a chance. In my opinion all 3 teams through to the semi finals are excellent.

Maybe Fab has returned to Newcastle, maybe Tosan brought his spirit with him, but it can't be a coincidence that Eagles are finally playing 40 minute basketball and Mark is getting noticeably more animated during games. With every Eagle on the scoresheet, the biggest roar from the crowd last night was when Kande scored !
Dare we dream that when Darius gets his well deserved testimonial next month, he'll be Mr. 28 ? Bring it on and GO EAGLES !

London have forfeited home court advantage in the semi-final series, so Fri 10th May in Newcastle is game one, and Sun 12th in London is game two, with game 3 in Newcastle likely on the following Tues or Weds if needed.

Why did they forfeit? Venue availability? Arrogance?

Why did they forfeit? Venue availability? Arrogance? id imagine its venue availability or cost of booking venue with chance of no game to play. thats a big issue with the best of 3 format. even if your club owns the venue its still a weekend day you have to keep free and not esrn a pennie if the series id over in 2. worst ofcourse for those teams paying to book a space

Why did they forfeit? Venue availability? Arrogance? I believe it’s due to not wanting to book the Copper Box Arena for a game that might not happen or a game that you’ve only got a couple of days to try and sell 6,000 tickets to (a few days after the last one too).

looks like we could be on for 4 sweeps so theres 4 home games booked in and paid for that havent made the clubs involved anything. for some more costly than others. id imagine the copperbox would be the most in demand and most expensive
