What's with the Login?

Hi I've noticed over the past few weeks in order to just view the forum you have to now have a registered account and can no longer view it as a guest.

When and why did this happen?

It was done to protect the forum for those with malicious intent.

Understandable but isn't that what the Mods are for to keep an eye on this?

I'm sort of worried that people might he less likely to sign up if they can't view the forum first and some people might just
want to view what is on the other side?

I can understand not allowing guests to post without registering but I feel you should still be able to view it without needing to sign up.

2) There are some people who were deliberately, and maliciously, acting in a totally unacceptable way.
3) the decision was made after a great deal of thought by the mods.

We have no intention of allowing certain people wreck this forum they way they did other places.

Hi Spacejammer - to add to what Milehigh said, somehow - and we're not sure how, a couple of posts were made by unregistered users even though the settings are supposed to be prohibiting that. So we thought if we changed this setting it might also help stop that happening. On the positive side, after making the change, a huge number of people registered which goes to show how many 'viewers' we have who don't actually want to post. However now they have accounts, they can do if they wish. It was nice to see how many people were out there making use of this site without having actually joined.

It's ignorant people who can't debate who resort to personal attacks rather than just arguing their case

I just find it sad that the two active mods over there were quite happy for the site to die off.   They knew people were getting pissed off at all the unmoderated arguments and were quite happy to let them continue.    They could have had the decency to pass moderation over to people that cared about the forums.

Yeah, I don't get it either.  He got the boards up again after they were closed but then just seemed to give up on them.

I think it’s a great shame that what’s bev seems to have died a death. It was a British basketball institution. It wasn’t just down to one person who felt the need to prove himself right all the time and in all honesty there’s a few on here who contributed to its demise. Glass houses.

I think a lot of the blame does lie with the moderators there who abandoned it and left it to rack and ruin, dominated by 2 idiots everyone else got sick of.

But yes, it's time to move on and get back to the reason people are here, discussing basketball! I suppose nothing lasts forever but I see this place as pretty much the same thing, just better managed. We even have the branding now too - try whatsbev.co.uk and see what happens 😉

When you have admin who don’t even bother logging on to see what the hell was happening it’s no wonder the site ended up falling on its arse, When you had two dumbass bashing heads all the time about who’s dick was bigger, nobody gave a toss, so most switched off,

This site is a breath of fresh air and let’s keep it that way, plenty of discussion and no dumb crap.

To be fair benji that individual did register here despite not being invited and immediately started trolling and shit stirring so he was kicked out. Why would you want someone like that being part of the community?

His recent posts on the other place and his blog show why we have made the right decision in not allowing him to contribute here.

Many people object to his abuse, threats and bullying.

The moderator team have a responsibility to ensure that this forum remains a friendly and welcoming place for people to discuss the game.
