Interesting fixture. I would put Gladiators as favourites. I get the impression Newcastle have been figured out by the other teams and need to come up with some other new plays.

This will be a big weekend for Eagles in the push for 3rd place. Last time I saw Gladiators at the VMA I couldn't help but feel that something was off with their body language and they looked uncomfortable.
If they turn up the same way and Gareth gets himself the boot again then I believe we should put the Gladiators away again. Same for if we turn up on form as well I like to think we can beat them.
However I wouldn't underestimate the Gladiators and reckon it should be a good game. I'm suprised Sky isn't showing this game on Sky. Especially when their favourite Lions are playing their 2nd Eurocup match at the same time as Sharks vs Riders during the Sky Sports game this week?
To be honest with our inconsistentcy I have a feeling we will either win this one and lose Sunday or lose this one and win Sunday. Either it should be a good way to start the Easter weekend.

Yeah but sky have missed some of the best games of the season, top of table clashes etc etc to put on Patriots V Giants

That was the best BBL coverage of an Eagles game yet for me - unfortunately offnights from Larry and Devin cost us the win tonight, but I'd give MVP to Malcolm.

Beating Newcastle doesnt feel the same since Fab left and we moved from Glasgow and became a new team. It doesn’t happen that often tbf Well it happened tonight. Firstly what I will say is just when you thought their was no exciting games left until the playoffs. Tonight this game proved to be an absolute thriller and one which I enjoyed. Whilst I'm gutted the Eagles lost this one I also think for both teams this was a good preview and test of what the playoff games will be like this season especially between the teams that finish 3rd-6th place. In the game itself I felt the Glads had us in the 1st and 4th Quarter whilst the Eagles came out strong in the 2nd and 3rd. In the end to the fans that shouted at Gladiators Green "your a one man team" was unfortunately the hint the Gladiators needed in order to take victory in this one. Up until around late 3rd and 4th Quarter Green was the only player in double digits. But once other players like Whelan, Moore and Bothwell stepped up they became more of a unit and saw this one through. As for the Eagles I felt we fought bravely to the end but what let us down was probably our substitutions and not having the right guys on the floor. Defoe as much as we all love him, I felt towards the end we needed to have had Depleche on the floor especially when we needed scores and he was having a great game. Also when Larry picked up 2 quick fouls early on I wondered why Marc didn't sub him out for Whitfield? As well as that towards the end of the game where we needed a 3 point score. Our big man who can usually hit deep 3's in Neighbour for some reason never got played and I actually forgot we had him until the later timeouts? Towards the end it was the perfect moment for that hero 3 shot and we didn't use him? Which again makes me wonder why did we sign him? Spencer featured in the 1st half and I thought put in some good hustle but then never came back on the 2nd half I don't believe as well. In the end whilst I questioned the unsportman on Johnson by the refs who blew alot of late calls tonight. I thought Gladiators were the better team in the end on the night and deserved the victory which I reckon more then likely will see them secure 3rd place too and avoid Lions until the finals. I hope in that case their travelling fans have a good party in the Toon this weekend and enjoy the city if their sticking around this weekend before heading safely home as they were superb as well tonight too. As for the Eagles if my prediction before this game is right we should defeat Riders on Sunday if we are going 1-1. Although the best I think we can get now is 4th place. Despite the loss I believe we are in a better place as a team right now then Riders at the minute. But with it being the Eagles vs Riders classic it might just be the right game Robbie P needs to fire up his team and get them back on track. Roll on Sunday!

I think you are being 2 kind about certain things, especially neighbour, Spencer and Defoe. I mean why did we sign neighbour ? He’s Not the athletic big we needed To prioritise and now he doesn’t even get any mins, pointless signing, similarly Spencer! As for Darius well not his best night, delpeche should have stayed on as was having a great game

As for Darius well not his best night, delpeche should have stayed on as was having a great game I agree, Spencer and Neighbour have turned out to be bad signings and should be released at the end of the season. I think this is the best I've seen Delpheche play this season which is very encouraging considering Defoe can't keep going forever. I assume Eagles will need a replacement for Defoe, and they need a 3 point shooter. Only three 3 points in the entire game is unbelievable, and not having that option is very limiting, especially in the final minute.

Defoe in my opinion is clearly on his final season if you ask me. 20 years and having done it all in the BBL apart from win Europe I think this season we are starting to see the signs that it is finally time. Considering he missed one game for us due to age is probably a sign it's time to hang it up. Only thing I hope is that when he does call it a day he announces it and maybe the Eagles does something like a testimonial game in the summer or something similar to what Robbie P got. He certainly deserves one for his service to the Eagles organisation and the BBL. For Neighbour I can't disagree with what you have said and I agree for Spencer as well. The only thing I would say for Spencer is if we were to re sign him can he turn it around and prove his worth next season and does coach trust him? Thinking back to Stuart Thomson we re signed him after a rough season and he really shone the following year. If we can get that sort of player out him then maybe I would consider but again he needs to be showing some more potential now. Apart from him and Neighbour every other Eagles player to me this season has proven they deserve to come back next year.

One other thing I'm questioning is how our starring line up has all 3 of our star guards in it plus Taj and Defoe. I probably would have had Johnson and Ricky then maybe Wardhibbert in with Larry coming off the bench to cover Rickey and JJ. I think at times as well in the game against Sharks 2 weeks ago we played to fast and tripped over ourselves. Whereas tonight I think we didn't play fast enough against Caledonia especially towards the end Where we needed an explosive offensive run. I suppose I could compliment the Gladiators defence on why we weren't as fast but I think had we played alot faster we could have ran them off the floor and caused them alot more foul trouble.

I would agree with that. I wouldn't start with Austin. I would want to start and finish with Johnson and McGill. And I agree, Defoe should choose to retire on his own terms and get a testimonial. I also hope he stays around to do some coaching because he's a really good player and upcoming centers could learn a lot from him how to play that position.

With a week off next week and since we have already planned to venture into Europe next season I wonder if the Eagles will start building for next season now. I certainly would start having the conversation with some players as well and see if we can get some work done before the off-season. I understand might be to early and players might not want to commit but I think it would be good for the players to know that if they aren't offered elsewhere then they are atleast wanted by the team which could make a difference to their decision to return.

Quade Green was sensational. Be amazed to see him back in the BBL next year. True but I feel the same for him as Teddy Allen this season and Javion Hamlet last season. Even with a star quality player you need to have a good team to play around him. Last night if it weren't for other Gladiator players stepping up in the 4th Quarter then I think Eagles would have come together and beaten them. Same reason why Cheshire are so good this year and Lions do well. Whilst Gladiators have a great player I hope their plan isn't to rely on him to carry them.

If they have a bad season you don't want them back anyway.
