It’s just the WhatsBev direct domain name that’s expired… the board itself is still there and accessible directly via the ProBoards URL. But it certainly feels WhatsBev might be on its last legs. I’m glad we’ve got this new place up and running to keep the basketball conversation going.

Yes, nice to be on here, but I take no pleasure in WhatsBev having troubles.

Nice to see you join Solly. Whatsbev is not an entity with feelings and emotions, so don't worry too much about it! We're (nearly) all here now and aside from the brand name, there isn't much difference in terms of the purpose of the site. Wishing you lots of fun and enjoyment here.

Yes, nice to be on here, but I take no pleasure in WhatsBev having troubles. Totally agree with you. It’s just a shame that the mods still there seemingly want nothing to do with the forum but still unwilling to pass it over to anyone that is.

It's a bit like Boris - no one wants him anymore, but he refuses to budge. In the end the power of the people will tend to deal with these issues, hence this site springing up and Boris out before or at the next election.

SamH can we have a name for this place? We could but I don't think it will change the URL, so would it add anything?

Could we look at making the sticky threads a bit more clear? Or maybe not making game threads stickies, I know it’s not the biggest problem in the world but I find it difficult to find the latest updated topics because they’re all a bit jumbled up I find

Now that the whatsbev.com domain name has expired I'd guess there's nothing to stop this forum grabbing it up (via ProBoards support who arrear to still hold it, but will no doubt give it to anyone willing to pay for it). The old WhatsBev forum would then fade into obscurity. I might even be happy to stump up the cash for it if that's the direction people want to go in.
Although personally I don't think there's anything wrong with the UK Basketball forum name we've adopted.

We have actually looked at that but MileHigh reckons whatsbev.com is still registered to someone in Scotland and unavailable. Although I dont think we want to rehash that name, this is a new beginning. The UK basketball forum - what's wrong with it? Does what it says on the tin and its in the URL.
Something to think about but lets make any hurried decisions on it.
Casualhook - we're trialling having a thread for each day there are games (1 or more) rather than a thread for every game as that did look cluttered. I think it makes sense to sticky the game threads for the up-coming week though doesn't it? Then people can get to them easily as they'll be the 'hot' threads for the week. There are only a handful of stickies and they are marked with the red sticky sign, would it not be more difficult to find them if they were in the general population of threads moving up and down the board?

I don't know anything about the basketball politics going on here between this forum and Whatsbev. I see people are posting here now, but I had to be specifically told this forum existed via a message on Whatsbev.
Maybe this is an argument that has already been had. But as an outsider, it does seem a bit weird to be abandoning a still vaguely well known British basketball 'brand' in Whatsbev in favour of a new forum that is currently invisible on search engines (obviously I know that will change, or at least I assume it will).
If the goal is get back control of the forum from an absent owner/moderators then fine - why not get the Whatbev domain name? I've heard the name Whatsbev still being dropped on podcasts/live streams and I'm sure there must be plenty of people who are more casual fans, and more likely to lurk than to register and post. I know becuase I have been a longtime lurker.
Those people now might well be in the dark about the new forum/unwilling to go to the effort to find the new one which, as I said, they won't through Google.

Absolutely - obviously the first thing was to get all the regular people fed up with WB over here, then obviously we want to try and grow it and make it the place for new fans to come too. We may well be able to acquire all the other whatsbev URLs which may help with directing people here, e.g. whatsbev.co.uk and so on.
And yes, the main reason this site has sprung up is because everyone was fed up with a couple of people at WB ruining it and nothing being done. You may notice those 1 or 2 people are not here and the vibe is much more chilled with the focus on the sport! But obviously it is a new entity and will take time to grow just as Bev did.
On that note if you know anyone who gave up posting at Bev because they got fed up with it, do let them know about this place as they may like to join in again now. I was one such person, I stopped posting there well over a year ago but am happy to be back joining in now.

Hey all, so I somewhat sadly just posted my last whatsbev post. Beyond a shame what’s happened, but I am excited to talk amongst like minded BBL fans.
So life long Raiders fan and their final season success really helped me through lockdowns. When it all imploded I was beyond sad, but…. The pats and the continuation of basketball in Plymouth sees me shouting for the Pats!!!! Played ball at U16 level against plymouth and for the SW England. Looking forward to a positive yet opinion allowing forum

Further to what SamH said earlier. there are a number of things happening in the background to, rightly, establish this as the number 1 forum for basketball discussion in the UK.
Please allow us the time to get this done. Also, if anyone want to help technically, or financially, please send Sam &/or myself a private message.
Thanks

I'm sure everyone would agree that so far this is a breath of fresh air so congrats to all those who have transferred and all those working to grow the forum.
FYI......I put my head round the door of whatsbev today......and the dynamic duo are still at it......
